MY 99 Passat Esatate went into the dealer today as the electrics stopped working a few weeks ago. Seems that water has corroded the wires in the passenger footwell area and the total cost to fix that AND fix the leak that caused it.. about £850. The car is continually going worg and costing money so it's time to get a new little runaround.

Question...would any dealer or individual be interested in a car in this state (athough it runs beautifully.. just electric windows, internal lights, electric mirrors and remore tailgate release do not work) or should I just write it off and sell it to a scrap merchant to take off my hands for £50?

Cheers!

How much would you be after if you sold it in it's current condition?

my sister has an r plated passat that leaked. apparently it was beyond economic repair. the local garage bypassed the heater and she will use it like that until it breaks down or wants too much spending on it. although everything on her car works bar the heater.

Did the VW dealer mention what caused it?

Put it on ebay with an honest description - someone will want it.

It's just £850 sounds a bit steep. I spoke a couple of lads at work about how much they've quoted and we all agree that it's very expensive for the work that needs to be carried out(we suspected it'd come through the pollen filter area). It's so unfortunate that you're too far away from Herts as i know a couple of places that would charge you *a lot* less.

Appreciate the thought. To the credit of my dealer he did say I could probably get it done cheaper elsewhere so I will see if I can find a good independent near me first.

Just to add....just taken up the carpet - like a swimming pool!!! I have now got rid of all the water and will take a look tomorrow when it's all dried out... I think with a bit of luck I may be able to solve this myself!! Here's hoping smile
