M2 Golf GTI engine running problem
Discussion
Can anyone ofer any help with my Golf GTI the engine will not rev as cleanly as it should, it feels like it has no power .
Some times if i just switch it of for a few seconds and then start it up again the problem disappeares and it pulls like a train and revs as it should.
This problem is seems to be slowly getting worse, i have tried the obvious things like new leads /plugs /distributor cap/fuel filtter/ and so on
also i have checked any obvious wires for breaks etc
any ideas anyone

An intermittent fault like that could be many things, but you seem to have already attacked a few of the standard culprits. Presume that you have also checked the ignition timing.
Other components (off the top of my head) that could do this are a dodgy petrol pump (you have two fuel pumps to consider - lift and injection) or a coil that is on the way out.
Best of luck

Thanks nel for the advice, is there a way of testing the pumps that you know of
or is it just a case of replacing them, they sound expensive
The timing has never been checked as far as know ? pardon my lack of knowlege but why could the timing cause this intermitant problem

8v or 16v?- what is it K-jet or digifant?
Bang on, each has a list of common niggles that can cause this.Edited by HiAsAKite on Sunday 29th July 01:29
Some simple ones worth checking though:
Crud accumulates behind the coil and earths it to the bulkhead.
Both engines are very timing sensitive.
Temperature sensors cause a mixture of running problems and are prone to failing.
Thanks for the advice gents i have changed one sensor already, a guy at Gearman and Swedish said "try the the blue one in the plastic moulding bolted to the front of the head" so i did ( sadly no change ) i have not looked at the coil as yet but will very soon
