Meet The 1002bhp TT

MTM TT has 250mph in its sights

Scooptastic TT
Scooptastic TT
MTM has been fiddling with its Bimoto TT (no euphemism intended. Mucky pups). They’re edging forward to an eventual 250mph goal, but they have a few changes in the works…

The car currently runs on a pair of 1.8 litre turbocharged four pots, which each push out about 370bhp (740bhp in total, fact fans). However, the slightly power crazed engineers and MTM reckon that they can get 501bhp out of each engine, putting the total power output at 1002bhp.

They have recently set a speed of 245mph on a high speed run, but their target has always been the magical 250mph; and they’re planning on doing it at Nardo at sometime soon.

For the attempt they have employed Porsche Carrera cup driver Florian Gruber in the hope that he can rein in all the power.

If you like the look of this be-scooped TT, and have decided that the 197bhp of the current (2.0T, not the 3.2 V6 – please don’t moan at me) TT is too pedestrian for you then MTM might be able to help you. They’re planning on building a limited run of 10 cars.

QS Tuning are the sole UK agents for MTM. If you want to see what they have to offer go to www.qstuning.com.

Why do they claim power at exactly 1002 bhp, let me think...

501 bhp out of each 1.8, thats very impressive in anyone's book. TT is seriously ugly though, anyone else thinking poor-mans veyron in looks and power.

I dont see the point of having 2 engines.

And 500bhp from a 1.8 ?! we're talking F1 technology for that to be possible.

Well they are turbocharged!

This whole car is obviously not a styling project, so why comment about it? It's about showing off engineering capability. 250mph in a TT is impressive, and I'd imagine quite scary at Nardo.

Thw fact the car is on a carpet and theres a piece of skirtin at nearly the same height of teh car is a bit of a give away that its a scale mdel in the pic.
but back to the engineering side, if tehy get the 501 bhp out of each 1.8 the cas going to cost, one hell of a price as the engines are going to have to have some seriously strong internals

Isn't this scale model baced on the MTM racer? That would explain the similarity.

Odd they have it based on the older TT model, not the new one - in looks and use of the 2.0T. I think Big Bollox Bovingdon attempted to max the 740bhp tune on the autobahn some while back - his first time over the double ton I recall. I like it! Those crazy Germans...

Not really, a 2.3l Evo I mapped recently made 622bhp. That's a road car on road fuel, and is almost the same bhp/l as they are talking about above, owner could have more too if they wanted.

Why do an article about a 250mph, 1002bhp TT when it's actually a twin engined 370bhp-each TT (only a tiny 260bhp short of the supposed power) which has only cracked 245mph?

Yes they are HOPING to crack the 250mph and they THINK they can get 501bhp out of each engine (which does magically add up to 1002bhp) but getting a 1.8 turbo engine to tune to that level of power is gonna be pretty damned unreliable (how many speed runs do they have to do to 'secure' their claims?) and getting 2 of them to run exactly the same power, reliably and without problems is gonna be extremely difficult!

An article based entirely on speculation and random 'picked out of the air' figures! Can't beat a bit of good ol' sensationalism.

They're not entirely 'picked out the air' figures - MTM tend to know what they're talking about. They want to do 250mph, whether it's with 740bhp or 1002bhp; Good luck to them, I say.

Seems a strange car to choose to hit 250mph, surely not as aero efficient as some other options. But I guess it's their thing, so fair play to them if they can make it do it.

Norris Designs managed over 600hp from the 1.8 CA18DET engine in a UK 200sx S13. I also remember Top Secret in Japan getting close to 800bhp from a Silvia, can't remember whether it was the standard 2 litre SR20DET lump or whether it was stroked to 2.2, either way power like this can be got from small capacities

indeed norris designs also have there 1000bhp time attack car, and yes it is in the early stages of development but it is getting more and more reliable to the point where the boss thinks it will last 2-3k on 1 engine!!!

big power from small cars isnt a new thing as we all now, but i do agree with the comments about choice of car for such a thing, surely not the most stable thing at speed
