My brother has a brand new TT 2.0TFSI with 16" wheels. He had a puncture last week but luckily was at home when he noticed so was able to take the tyre for repair in his Land Rover.

Apparently the TT doesnt come with even a space-saver, despite there being a suitable storage well for one. His Audi dealer says they dont sell one for the TT in the UK either.

So, we were thinking that perhaps it would be possible to fit a space saver or steel spare from another VAG car. Perhaps a MK5 GTi, A3 or Octavia ?

Does anyone know what he needs to order to get one? The dealer is really not very helpful.

It has, but *apparently* the Audi supplied tyre foam writes off the tyre !

You do seem to have a grudge against Audi but this is extremely common now. A spare wheel is a big hunk of space taking weight, and so run flats or repair foam is now the preferred choice of many new cars (not just VAG) - eliminating the spare.

The Audi tyre foam doesn't "write off the tyre" where others doesn't - it simply means (and I assume this is still the case but would need to check) that you can't puncture repair a tyre that has had the foam used in it. I don't know the technical reason why. Remember you can't repair a puncture from every tyre anyway, only if it's in a specific place (centre of tread).

So, while you're correct on all accounts, I think it's unfair to write it in such an "Audi are pap" kinda way.

Oh, forgot to ask; are the wheels 16" all round?
Another common problem is if you have different sized wheels front and back.

I wasnt' Audi bashing at all confused

I know what you mean wbout the wheel size issue - I believe the Civic Type R has a space saver that is too small to fit over the front wheels - so you have to fit a rear wheel to the front, then the spare to the rear.

My Brother-in-law has a Honda Accord Type-R and tells me that this is the case with his car as the spare fouls the brake caliper - does seem a fairly crappy idea to me.

My A3 only has a 'space' (cost) saver spare, I had a puncture which I noticed at home just before I was due to go to a distant meeting. I didn't trust the '50mph 50 mile' wheelbarrow tyre and couldn't get a new one that day so had to cancel my appointment.

I have since bought a set of spare wheels on ebay (used but 4 wheels+tyres were cheaper than 1 new wheel from Audi!) so that it doesn't happen again.

Like catso the easiest way to solve your problem is buy an OEM or replica wheel with tyre and keep it at home / in the car dependent on your journey. A PITA I agree but something I'm going to have to do with my next Audi as well.

my brother used the tyre foam stuff on his car, and the garage then said the tyre is now no good and can't be repaired due to the foam. i think AA or RAC membership is the best bet, as they'll send a mobile tyre fitter out if theres no spare (well, they do with our works vehicles). but then, would you want a mobile tyre fitter destroying your alloy rims with his antiquated, alloy wheel munching machine when he removes the tyre?

We now have two possible part numbers for the same part, courtesy of a friendly VAG master tech and Audi parts dept. respectively:

1K0 601 027 B 03C

and

1K0 601 011

We have now confirmed that the first of those two part numbers will fit the hub/brakes of the TT. Just need to try it in the wheel well.

Daft thing is that the TT has a jack included - so whatcha supposed to do with that?

Hit yourself over the head with it when you run out of patience?

The difference it will make to the weight is minimal, its a cost cutting exercise.
