I need a comfortable cruiser to do about 50k per year,80% motorway driving any ideas what consumption I could realistically expect from an A8 3.0 Tdi?. Any othre comments regarding long term ownership would be appreciated.

I run a 2004 4.2 A8 petrol, but only do 5k miles pa. I was told by the dealer that you should get high 20s on average and high 30s on a run in the diesel. The Audi 3 litre diesel is not as frugal as the 7 series unfortunately.

If you can, get one with the servicing pack, there are three and five year packs and they cover everything down to windscreen wipers and brake pads, but not brake discs I believe. Also, smaller wheels (I have Audi 20&quotwink apparently make the rid ebetter and quieter.

I run an A6 3.0 tdi quattro tiptronic (bigger boot than A8) and have just toured France and Switzerland. The car is still running in only done 10k miles but averaged about 36 mpg fully laden on motorways, a and b roads and mountains. Iguess as thye a8 is a bit wider and a bit less sklippery it would do slightly less.
