In Germany, VW Steers You!

Well, not really

VW’s boffins have been at work again – this time they’ve come up with a steering system that lets you know when to counter steer.

Using their upcoming electromagnetic power steering system, they’ve developed the “Volkswagen ESP Plus Steering Impulse” technology.

When things get a bit slippery and you’re steering one way, the system will give you polite reminder to steer the other way.

Worldcarfans.com has spoken to VW, who were keen to say that the system doesn’t steer for you – only nudge you a bit.

The system has been known to decrease stopping distances by ten per cent, too.

I'm certainly no Stig Blomqvist, but isn't counter-steering instinctive? I mean, even kids on a go-kart track can do it. You just steer the car in the direction you want it to go.

A system that lets you know when to counter steer?

I thought that was called steering feel. Maybe VAG should try it...
