RS4 Too good to be true?
Discussion
Evening,
I've been browsing the PH classifieds and found this 2001 RS4; 6000 miles at £12995....
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/228924.htm
The seller states that there is a problem with 1st/2nd gear and it's been standing for 4 years. Even allowing for a service and gearbox re-build, isn't this car still half price?
I'm clearly missing something...Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dominic

im not certain but the a4 with a v6 twin turbo is a S4 not a RS4. rs4 has a v8
Nope, they made a RS4 version with the 2.7 Twin Turbo - I think it was only in estate though. To be honest, at that price i wouldnt touch it, sub 10k it might be worth a bash, but these are not cheap cars to maintain, and it being neglected means big bills!

The RS4 only became a V8 for the B7 model launched in 2006.
This B5 model was based on the B5 S4, which was the V6 Bi-turbo but with larger K04 turbos, better injection and intakes, and wide bodywork.
As you rightly say 400 (plus a few more) came to the UK.
This car - I'm sorry - but those seats and steering wheel rim do not look like they come from an only 6000 mile car.
Also with that many dash lights on I would budget for some expensive repairs like expired airbags, ABS ECU unit and pump, ECUs, Cambelt change due to age alone, as WELL as the gearbox problems. IMHO could be in region of £6000 - £8000 for an Audi main dealer or specialist to fix - minimum.
PS an RS4 would not have gearbox problems until well into 100,000 mile territory. The gearbox is not known for being fragile.
£12995 is not bad money, but bedget for at least £20000 total to have made correct.
Steer clear, I say, or make doubly sure you've got a professional inspection of it before buying.

In the under-bonnet pic, its sure done a lot more than 6,000 miles!
But, even allowing for a false mileage and a broken gearbox, I still would fancy it for 12k!
Have you read the rs246 link? The VIN doesn't show up as a true RS4, the ECU has a different VIN etc. Who knows what it really is?But, even allowing for a false mileage and a broken gearbox, I still would fancy it for 12k!
Only read the link afterwards!
I imagine it's a real RS4 that's been given the VIN of a normal A4, i.e. a ringer (i think?).
Still, after the police had dealt with the matter, and assuming there was no risk of it being confiscated from you etc, could be lots of car for little money. As mentioned in the thread, maybe a neat "budget" track day car!
