audi s4 2.7 bi turbo autocar test
Discussion
I don't have the Autocar feature.
I have numerous Audi Driver magazines with their figures though.
The data below is actaully taken from the April 2003 issue, where they refer back to a road test published in 1999. The figures are the magazines timings and therefore are obviously dependant on the run in state of the car they were using.
Displacement: 2671cc
Power@rpm:265BHP@5800rpm
Max Torque@rpm:296lb.ft/400Nm@1850-3600rpm
Max Speed: 155mph
0-50: 4.1
0-60: 5.6
0-70: 7.6
0-80: 9.4
30-50 (3rd gear): 3.3
30-50 (4th gear): 4.4
50-70 (3rd gear): 3.3
50-70 (4th gear): 4.0
50-70 (5th gear): 4.5
Weight: 3330lb
178BHP/ton.
Some other figures for comparison, again from Audi driver. The only figures for a tuned S4 are from a Scott Mototune map. A very average example of a rempapped S4 as the power is 313BHP and 504NM torque. With a good custom remap that figure should be a minimum, with 320+ BHP more likely.
30-50mph (3rd)
Mototune B5 S4 - 3.3 secs
Stock B5 RS4 - 3.5 secs
Stock B5 S4 - 3.2/3.3 secs (two sets of test figures)
Stock RS2 - 4.0 secs
Stock B7 RS4 - 2.9 secs
Stock RS6 Avant - 2.4 secs (kick down - cheating really as I guess that means 2nd was also used)
30-50mph (4th)
Mototune B5 S4 - 4.2 secs
Stock B5 RS4 - 5.0 secs
Stock RS2 - 5.8 secs
50-70mph (3rd)
Mototune B5 S4 - 2.8 secs
Stock B5 RS4 - 3.1 secs
Stock B5 S4 - 3.3/3.4 secs (two sets of test figures)
Stock RS2 - 2.8 secs
Stock B7 RS4 - 2.8 secs
Stock RS6 Avant - 2.9 secs (kick down - cheating really as I guess that means 2nd was also used)
50-70mph (4th)
Mototune B5 S4 - 3.5 secs
Stock B5 RS4 - 3.8 secs
Stock B5 S4 - 3.9/4.0 secs (two sets of test figures)
Stock RS2 - 3.9 secs
Stock B7 RS4 - 3.7 secs
50-70mph (35th)
Mototune B5 S4 - 4.5 secs
Stock B5 RS4 - 5.1 secs

You can easily turn the wick up on the S4 2.7TT with a simple remap to go from the stock 265bhp to 315bhp. Further increases are available but start to cost proper money.
I was very seriously considering one but since it was going to be my wife's car she had the final choice and preferred the BMW 330i SE Sport Touring.
From the research I did on the Audi though, it looks like a good buy.
