As my A4 is a bit long in the tooth, I've had it serviced by a local garage rather than an Audi specialist. I'm happy that they've done what is required, but they didn't reset the display - it still says SERVICE when I switch on the ignition. Is there a simple way to set this or is it something only an Audi garage can do?

Take it to your local dealer and ask them to reset it. Our local garage couldn't reset the Brake Pad warning light on our old A6, we had to drop it into an Audi dealer for it to be done.

If you hold down the service button (the spanner) just below the speedo whilst turning on the ignition until service in xx miles comes up then press the 0,0 button beside it and it should then reset to zero.

I think we're at cross purposes here ... my problem is it says SERVICE - not the number of miles. I want it to tell me there's x miles and x days until the next service.
I've tried various combinations of holding down the spanner, 0.0, etc. buttons whilst switching on all to no effect. frown
Looks like a trip to Audi is in order. scratchchin

There is a company in Gloucester, Cotswold Electronics I think, that reset my service indicator. Cost about £10. Might be worth ringing around a few local auto electricians first. I have a funny feeling your local Audi dealer will not play ball in case it is a scam or something. Drop me a PM if you need the phone number, he is a sound bloke and will not rip you off.

My sister in laws husband has a service book which lists most cars and how to reset the service indicator. He did my wifes Alhambra and he is also stamping the service book (use to run his own garage). All I have to do is pay for oil and filters. Saves me a few quid.
Doesn't help you but most garages will have this book.

Any indepenant with VAGCOM should be able to do this. The indie that services my wifes Leon Cupra resets the service indicator, and tells me he can do it on my new A6. The garage that serviced the car should be able to do it.

press and hold spanner turn on key reset with 00 button, at first it wont display service mileage but after a thousand mile or so car should start counting down to service interval.

In your collective experience, will the dealer reset the lights even if they have no way of telling whether it has been serviced? Took my S8 to an Indie for filters and oil but as we'd gone to Stella land straight after the service he forgot to stamp my service record.
