I have been told by Audi UK that it is not advisable or possible to fit a towbar to a late model (new Shape) RS4 Avant as it could cause the engine to overheat when towing!!! does anyone know if this is correct. My intention is to tow a Peugeot 205 race car occasionally, the total weight of car and trailer being about 1000kg

Don't know anything about the RS4 but you could'nt fit one to the RS6 It made the gearbox over heat and if you did fit one Audi would void the warranty. Bit rubbish really you would have thought they would make good tow cars.

There was someone on RS246 who had a Westfalia removable bar (Audi OEM) fitted to his RS4 but if I remember correctly it was only used to fit a bike rack to. Only issue was that it involved cutting a chunk out of the rear bumper.

I've also heard comments about towbars not being warrentied on Audi S and RS cars due to overheating too.

It's an option on the new S6, but not S4, S5 as far as I can see.
