They were/are a very nice car & are highly tuneable. I think they work especially well as an Avant. Manual transmission is becoming increasing difficult to find in a performance saloon now & all the quattro versions were manual only. Forget the automatic front wheel drive version, these turbo motors need to be harnessed to a manual 'box. All the usual Ur-quattro tuning tricks apply, so your wallet is the limiting factor on power output. The best bet is to get one of the run-out 20 valve models. The suspension probably feels a bit soft by today's standards - but that's nothing a set of KWs wouldn't fix. The other great thing about the 200 is that they're relatively light, slippery & of course a quattro.

I drive a 200 quattro turbo myself (late 10 valve model with torsen diff).

I also have a 100 quattro turbo avant which will end up looking like a 200 after I've finished with her!

The 20 valve turbo 200's were never imported to the U.K. - only the later S4/S6 was imported with the 20 valve engine in the longer chassis. However, I do think a few reside here in the U.K. now but they're quite rare.

And you'll be surprised how well mated the 3 speed auto is to the turbo'd 5. It actually suits the car.

Probably not. Audi ceased 200 right hand drive production in '90. The 20valves stopped in '91.

I saw your old car at Castle Coombe a few years ago; if I remember correctly it was having problems and had to be trailered home. But very fast as you say...

But 1990 tallies with g plate - and they were only selling a few hundred every year when its "prime" so yours in my opinion must be one of the last one(s)

Sorry to hear that. It was great seeing the big bus flying round the track.

Hopefully I'll eventually have one just as fast. Not going down the 20 valve route though. 10 valve efi conversion...
