Hi Guys,

I have been a Quattro fan for years, ever since owning a 10v Quattro Turbo, i should never have sold it. I have been pottling about in an A6 2.8 Quattro Sport for a few years and its time to move on to more powerful things once again.

I am starting a new job shortly, and i have the opportunity to buy an RS6 as i wont be doing a particularly high mileage. Reading older posts on the forum, there has been some useful advice. The running costs shouldnt be too bad for what it is (thanks company fuel card!), insurance and tyres shouldnt be too bad. Although, i do have some questions regarding good/bad examples...

I dont want a pre-chipped version, as 450bhp is more than enough.

1) If i look for a 30k mile example, what (if any) should i look for when viewing?
2) DRC comes up in various posts, what are the warning signs to trouble? Knocking, handling issues, sensor warnings?
3) I am sure there are different spec versions of the RS6 (exluding the plus version), what are the rarer options people have gone for, or, are most examples full spec?
4) Obviously, i wouldnt look for one thats had 4 owners in its short life, as its been most likely thrashed and sold when big bills arise, my question is, are there any signs to look for with an RS6 thats had a hard life?
5) Can you buy after market warranties? If so, any advice in this area?
6) Does anyone know what work is done at each service interval. I know 40k is quite a pricy one, but anything at 50k/60k that could be super pricey?

Thanks for your help in advance

Rob

Hi Rob,

I bought one back in May and they are fantastic cars!

1)Full main dealer SH obviously, personally I would be looking at 1/2 owners especially if you are looking at the 30-40K plus price tag. At(40k)you should be able to pick an RS6+ as the dealers struggle to shift these cars. If you find a + privately then they should go for around >40k, (worth the extra if you ask me wink )

2) DRC, I have not had first had experinece of this, (sure it's only a matter of time though) but I have spoken with guys who have and apart from the handling going pear shaped, it will sound like you are carrying a bag of spanners around in the boot, clanking and banging at every bump in the road.

3) They come preety much fully loaded Rob, a few extra options may include, elec dippy mirrors, electric sun blinds, solar roof and the latter RS6+ has the RNSE which is the DVD based satnav.

4)Nothing I specifically know for the RS6, same as most others cars, mega stone chips on the front, worn drivers seat/bolsters etc...

5) You can still buy from Audi, but I think you're best sitting down when you hear how much £££'s, they are. Must be plenty warranties co.s around but check the small print for the max. claim allowed, as things like new gearbox can run upto 6k.

6)Haven't needed a service yet, but Audi prices for cambelt £1,150 - F&R brake disc's & pads £1800. fitted incl. VAT Tyres you're looking at min £800 for all 4.

Hope you the find right car Rob. If you haven't already found it take a look at this site http://www.rs246.com/index.php plenty of friendly/knowledgable guys on the forum.

Hi Rob,

Don't do it have a look in my profile my car was total rubbish. It now has the title of the worst car I've ever owned.

The DRC system seems to fail on around 70% of RS6's which to be frank is cack.

If you really really want one buy it from Audi.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the slow reply, i have been without t'internet for a while. Dave, sounds like your car was just a lemon and you were unlucky... some of the issues sounded minor and others not so.

One thing i have learnt looking round, is get a midrange milage model that has all the kinks ironed out including the DRC (40k mileage upwards) with a loving owner. Most people i have known with new cars generally (including myself) have had many issues in the first 20-40k miles.. its just what new cars do..

But i do appreciate the warnings and advice from you both. I will make sure my future car is not from Crawley and isnt Blue!
