Audi A4 1.8 20v Exhaust (OBD version)
Discussion
Gents, our new A4 sounds like a tractor... Something bent bang the other morning and since then its been making a huge racket. I assumed a bracket had come off from the manifold, but putting it on a ramp at ATS today has produced a different story...
There was considerable air coming from the part at the bottom of the down-draft that is wrapped in a mesh type steel rather than being solid steel. ATS tells me its the catalyst although I've never seen one before.
At the same time, the middle box/silencer was pretty damn rusted and looks like that will go within the month too.
Bill for the both was really steep - £420 fitted with VAT, which is not what I needed.
So - advice needed...
Can you repair the catalyst to seal it again? If not, does anyone have a recommended source of cheap aftermarket parts and someone to fit them (local to North London or Milton Keynes...)
Also, would fitting a cat-back exhaust cure this? Or getting a straight pipe from the engine without a cat at all? And if so - where from?
Hope someone has a cheap option as we have a baby arriving on Wednesday and I hadn't planned for this expense!
