Hi all,

I am down to one key for my A3 and need another for piece of mind. Audi quoted me nigh on £200 for a replacement that needs to get coded to the car etc. It makes sense, I suppose, but seems hideously expensive - I was originally thinking about getting two done!

Anyone know of any other route to replacing the keys?

Thanks in advance.

Audi will do a cheap 'non-flip' key but it doesn't save very much. This isn't just an Audi thing, keys even for cheapy shopping trollies require a re-mortgage these days.

I suppose you *could* buy a used key from ebay/breaker with the same art number, a key blank and then pay your dealer to code it. But it would be aggro and not actually save you very much money.

Do you know if you can you do the 'code' part yourself if you have VAGCOM?

Not sure actually, I'll ask one of the techs at work tomorrow.

I think £200 for a new key is the least of your worries, I would be more concerned where the "other" key is.

Somewhere between Loch an Daimh and Stuch an Lochain in the Highlands. Probably in the peat hag where I had a very miserable Mars bar. You're more than deserving of the car if you can find that and then travel the 500 miles to London and find the car.

i just did this to my vw golf
i bought a remote key from the local scrappy and got a key cut,
to program the key in vagcom you need the SKC (secret key code) usually a 7 digit code for the new cars or a 4 digit code on the old ones. if you do not have this then you need a program called vagtacho to retrieve this code from the ECU (the dealers can no longer release this)

As long as you know where it is, or rather, don't, then thats ok.
