Hi
does anyone have a 100% certain way of finding out the turbo model number of the part on my car without me taking the turbo off.
I know it should be a kkk k03 - but for the life of me i cannot find a list anywhere that will tell me what it should be.

why are turbos so bloody confusing -
help appreciated
steve

Hi,

If it's like my A3, most models have different numbers on them, just as long as they are the same spec. Out of interest, why do you need to know? smile

Are you looking for a used one? It may be easier to ask a breaker for one off a car with the same engine code. For this look at the head, and somewhere around it there should be three letters indicating which code. Then just ask a breaker for one off this engine.

Hope that's a possible answer to help you.

Hi
thanks for the info but their doesnt appear to be a k03S (at least the manufacturer doesnt think so) and all the numbers anbd information out there is so confusing. - noone seems to know.

I know its supposed to be a K03 - but the only (S) ive seen referred to being the 052,053 on are for the transverse engine.

the a4 180 is a longitudinal engine

more suggestions appreciated

What engine code is it?

I've got ETKA, but that won't give you the exact answer you need though. It'll help, which is something I suppose! smile

Quite a few 150bhp spec cars also happened have KO3S spec turbo's. Particularly 2001 year onwards I believe.
Also, officially, there is no 'Sport' turbo as such. Its just 'S' which apparently doesn't stand for anything much in particular. Hence scratching of heads when asking KKK/Borg(?) about 'sport' turbo's.
There used to be a handy site with KO3 serial/part numbers on, which help with identification, but i'll be buggered if I can find it now. Either way, there should be a tiny plate mounted on the cold side of the turbo with this number on, which should help greatly with identification. Albeit a bugger to read if the lump is transverse, as its at the back behind the block and surrounded by a multitude of hoses.

Bah, should have mentioned that when I posted - they're commonly referred to as 'sport', but you're quite right it doesn't actually stand for anything in particular.

Didn't know 150s ever got the S either.

A4's have longitudinally mounted engines, and the turbo is on the driver's side. You should be able to see the cold side pretty easy, perhaps with a bit of pipe manouvering!
