Where to find a Mint/Near Mint MK2 Golf GTi

I have searched Autotrader, PH Classifieds and Ebay but no joy.

I am looking for:

Mk2 Golf GTI
16v or 8v (16v pref)
Must have 5 doors
Not Lowered
In either: Oak Green (pref), Helios Blue, Black, Met Black
Prefer low mileage or car with average miles with FSH

Please post a reply if you know of any for sale?

Is there a VW or GTi forum with cars for sale?

The problem with cars like this (when they do crop up) is that they tend to attract silly money.

Almost all have been modified in some way as the standard dampers are all long since past it and good quality aftermarket stuff is cheaper and better than the rolltastic stuff you get from a dealer.

If you did want to go back to VW suspension and geometry I wouldn't discount an otherwise clean car for this reason.

How much do you plan to spend?

Try the forums on no-rice, Edition38 and Club GTI.

MIne isn't mint but its in good original condition with 137k miles. It had full dealer SH when I bought it so doesn't look like a 137k car. I paid £1600 2 years ago, probably too much but it was the best I had seen and I wanted it. The low mileage cars are rare and as said before fetch silly moey, up to £5k for 50-60k miles. Buy on condition, you might be waiting a long time for a low mileage example. Also you are narrowing your search with colours/5 door as well.
Try the owners clubs, carandclassic.co.uk sometimes have some advertised, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Good luck.

I think I'd far rather buy a higher mileage car maintained by someone knowledgeable than a 15+ year old car that has only had occasional use.

You have got to be quick, the nice ones tend to sell very, very quickly. I found a really nice 5 door 8v, 2 owners, fsh etc. it was in red - probably the worst colour unless you enjoy t-cutting. But it was such a good car I had to buy it. Don't discount cars that don't fit all of your criteria.

Theres a genuine as you like 5DR Oak Green 16v for sale down the road from me. It's advertised for sale in the classifieds on here. It's a J plate with all the extras such as electric Recaro interior, e/windows, mirrors and sunroof and of course PAS. It's a really straight one thats been in the owners family for a t least 10yrs. I have spoken with the guy briefly on 2 occasions. Might be worth seeing if it is still for sale. Price is £1650.

I will be looking to sell mine shortly, it is not mint but close

Here it is:



I has done 165,000, and is red, has no rust, but NOT a FSH. That said I have given it everything it wants and more. (There are receipts for oil changes, a full clutch kit etc though). It's a 16v model with rainbow interior that pulls like a train and gives me a huge grin every time. Only mods are a full Jetex (quiet) Stainless exhaust. It has no rust on it at all and the waxoyl still "bleeds" out of the body in the summer.

Over the past 12 months or so it has had, genuine or GSF parts:

Rad Fan
Rad
Front disks and pads
Oil pump
All belts inc Cambelt and water pump
Rear pads
New Wiper arms and wipers
Quality stereo with no panels cut!
Full set of Pirelli Rubber
etc


I am believe it is worth £2000. It drives like it should and will only go as I need a diesel now.
