Can anybody recommend an Audi specialist in the Basingstoke area please.

And another quick question, my A4 went in to the local main dealer before Christmas for a service. They phoned me and said that it needed new front pads and discs and new rear pads. When I started to question them they got a bit agitated, although the guy may have been inexperienced and I did give him a hard time. To cut a long story short the rear pads were replaced at the last service a year ago (at the same dealer)and the car has done just over 9000 miles since then.

I spoke to Audi UK who weren't very helpful, they seemed to think that 9000 miles for a set of rear pads is acceptable.

Just canvassing opinion, is 9000 miles on a set of rear pads acceptable when the car has received very light use ?

One other thing, the dealer kept mentioning that as it is a quattro it is heavier on brakes, is this true ?

I use the same dealer and must say I haven't been impressed. I can give you a breakdown on PM if you're interested.

Anyway - not exactly the same car but I have an S4 (also quattro). I get far more than 9K miles out of the pads but I guess it depends on how and where you drive it in those 9K miles. Mine is mixed motorway/ B road and I get way more than that.

I'm currently looking for an independant to do some work on it as I don't want to pay £99/hr for a mediocre service. If I find somewhere I'll report back

That was my thought, I've had 3 Impreza's all driven much harder than the Audi, they generally last 20k+ miles. I'm thinking about taking it to the Subaru garage who look after my Forester. Any info you coul dgive me by pm would be gratefully received.

We experienced similar dodgy practice from Audi in Camberley.

I have found an independent Audi place nr Sunbury (on my way to work!) who get very good reviews: http://www.wheelbase.uk.com/

I'm having some work done there on the 18/1/08.

OK so it wasn't in the very near future laugh

Just used these guys to get some work done on the S4. Can't recommend them enough. Workshop rates are half of the main dealer, very professional outfit, they talked through what needed doing in detail and importantly what didn't need doing (different story than the main dealer I might add). Almost apologetic about the cost of the front discs and spent time ringing round looking for cheaper options. Excellent stuff and will be going back again. thumbup Kicking myself for putting up with the dealers crap service for so long just to get a wee stamp in the service book

I would recommend these http://www.abtechavssltd.com/ .

They are in Totton, Southampton. I have used them numerous times for my A6.

Yeah, Basingstoke Audi tried to get my Dad to change his brake pads but when he asked how long ago they were replaced and how worn they were the rears were 50% and are the originals (June 05 car with 52,000mi) and the fronts were 70% worn and had covered nearly 20,000mi - needless to say, he declined their kind offer.

Try IGS Eastleigh or Autotechnik Southampton

I do find the parts guys at basingstoke Audi useful, seem happy to help, if a little rushed.

From various people on the Briskoda forum it's a good garage offering great service.

I have just had my front pads replaced by Basingstoke Audi at 55k the rears still have about another 8k left on them but I will not be going back to them for these, I will take mine to http://www.sjbautotech.co.uk/, they fitted a grill for me today and quoted £90 for rear pads, Basingstoke Audi have quoted £175.
