Tonight ladies and gentlemen, from the land of denial, comes my latest brilliant car purchase.

An Audi urS6 Estate, with 190k for £1,500. Its comes with plenty of wear, dampers, track rod ends, possible cooling problems, rust patchs, and little scrapes.

The big question, do I take it tomorrow in the hope it makes the 240 miles to work, then next weekend rely on it to get to plymouth were my current S6 is waiting to be broken. (would prefer to keep the Estate, but will have to judge in the cold light of day which is the best one.)

Or do I do the sensible thing and take the mondeo?

Well it made it, not 240 miles, but 340, from manchester to penzance, without missing to many beats, and I think I have found a bargain.

Yes its mecahnically tired, and running cold (thermostat we think) and therefore rich, and a few hesitations under WOT. Still goes like it should, and anyway, my S6 will make an excellent donor.

Ohhhh, the anticipation. On the other side this means I now need to break my lovely old S6.... Sniff!

So, which car is going to be the donor, which the receipient, and what needs swapping to make it perfect?

Keep us updated, very unusual cars these days.

Speaking to the garage tomorrow, so will keep you informed, but mine was a saloon, and had replaced dampers, wheel bearings, track rod ends, it drove great.

It was a water leak and 2in water in the footwell fried the ECU, which spiked and blew the coil packs, and with a replacement ECU (from scrapped car), POS and coilpacks she still refused to start. Without blowing a fortune on an Auto electricians time, the garage guessed a fault in a module in the harness.

The Estate has a healthy sounding engine, but was tired, dampers were worn, trackrod ends had play, thermostat was jammed and it ran cold.

I think I plan to keep the estate, and scrap the saloon. Not totally sure about this, an Autotrader search reveals more Estates than saloons for sale, but I prefer the Estate, and it makes sense if I use it to tow to track days, it can carry more kit... (although TBH it is unlikely to be used for that... thats why I have the Mondeo)

Stick with the Avant - S cars are all about lugging labradors at ICBM like velocity!

Any chance of some progress pics in members motors? Us S6 is a car that really appeals to me but I don't actually know a great deal about them.

Once I get it back I will do my best, but its a bit difficult, I am not doing any of the work, and the car is 200 miles away. Will add it to my cars with Repair costs once I have the bills...
