Help Please

Hi guys ,

Can anyone help with suggestions of what might be the fault with the A80 Cabriolet 1995 2.6 V6 , the roof has decided to stop working .
It starts to fold up nicely and the body panel lifts normally but just before it starts to fold away into the body it stops.

Any ideas please

I used to be an Audi tech, and did see a few cabriolets come in for similar problems. The roof uses lots of micro switches on various mechanisms which go faulty and I have had the odd wire rub through behind the interior 1/4 panels... but I would go straight for the bootlid wiring. These are well known for breaking inside the rubber/plastic sleeve near the boot hinge, and this tells the control unit whether you bootlid is closed or not, and the roof stops to avoid contact with the bootlid. If all else fails then take it to the stealers as there is a set procedure to check all the microswitch signals. Best of luck. Mike

Mrs had a Audi cab and the hood stopped a couple of times (on the drive luckily)and the worse was feared but a few of the wires rubbed through and by chance i had noticed the chaffing. Out came the electrical tape and no more problems. Good luck in this weather buddy
