3 of my mates competed in it last year and will be this year.

2 running 16s and one an 8.

There is a big section on ClubGti about the Series, but Ill try and answer any Q's you may have?

Not long to sort a car out though, first round is mid March.

Simply as a matter of general interest how much money would a season of competing cost, or cost per round approx/average?

You need to register for the series, which is £125
You'll need your race license and medical
Entry fees per round are around £200
Plus fuel for the race and transport to and from track
Plus ideally you'll want a spare set of tyres or at least 2 spares - £55 ish each for Toyo R888's
And any spare parts you may wish to take

Two of my mates did every round and it averaged out at about £400 per race. But they both had flat bed trucks to transport the cars around on to fuel.

I'm not looking at doin this year but next year, bought a cheap 16V as a trackday car, went to Autosport and bought an OMP cage, harnesses and extinguisher etc and the car I am building leans towards the spec of this championship.
I have a few things to do such as get the car up and together, get my fitness up, get my MSA license etc so this year isn't really an option.

If I do, it will be on a mega budget, no flatbeds etc for me, I've rejoined ClubGTI online but need a password so once on I'll ask a few questions such as what's happening with the sunroofs for those running OMP cages etc? What suspension to use? etc.

Going to go along to a few races this year and chat to people.

At 400 pounds thats reasonable, guessing 10 rounds a season. It compares well with simply doing trackdays, not that I'm tempted (to old now)and I'm more of an vintage car bloke. But its interesting to know that racing can be had for sensible money.

Yeh 10 rounds this season.

BD - we came across the sunroof issue when fitting all 3 cars with the OMP cages. You have to remove the sunroof mechanism and cage, what we did was rivet a sheet steel section over the void left by removing the sunroof, as Aluminium isnt allowed. At first the series organisers werent going to allow us to remove the sunroofs and instead recommended we cut the cages to lower them! Um yeh thats a good idea, having a load of people cutting x amounts of their cages and wielding them back up!

Nope, not allowed to weld a plate in last year.

Some of the regs have been changed this year, so not sure if they have changed it this year.

M4tthew, thanks once again, I'll give you a shout closer the time but I will come along to one of the early races purely and simply to have a poke and a prod, not to pinch ideas but purely and simply to see how cars should be prepped and say hello.

I might be last to the post but I'll always be first to the bar! biggrinbeer

No problem mate.

Everyone is really friendly so whoever you chat to will be more than happy to talk about the series and cars.
