Folks, hoping you can give me a couple of pointers here.

I have a Mk IV golf GTI (1.8T, '02 plate), and I have lost one of the flip out keys for it, still have the red one and one more normal one - & I want to get a replacement.

VW have quoted about £180 for a new one. Just wondered if I had any cheaper options? I guess with all the immobilizer stuff, I probably don't have a choice, but thought I'd ask!

Read some stuff about VAGCOM, and some other threads about putting the Red key in the ignition, shutting the door, locking the car from the outside with one of the other keys, and blipping the new one... etc etc, but don't know if this would be successful.

V grateful for any help before I hand over my hard earned!

I believe you can use a secondhand key, have a new blank (ebay) cut to your pattern and find a friendly forum member with vagcom to code it to the car.
