A4 avant rear door stopped working
Discussion
Along with other electrical issues on my 02 A4 avant, the tailgate has now stopped working. Have determined this isn't mechanical, so we're back to YET another electrical issue. There is no fuse so where does all this stuff lead back to?
For a bit of background, in the damp winter and the car is cold the hazards light up on their own, the interior lights come on and then their is no flash when the doors are locked and unlocked, and the battery very slowly drains. All solved by disconnecting the battery briefly. Suspect their might be a connection.
Am I going to have to go to the (gulp) dealership?

Coincidentally, the tailgate wouldn't open on the Allroad on Friday. I lifted the handle and the mechanism whirred and clicked as usual, but it wouldn't open. After several attempts at locking it, unlocking it, using the fob, using the key, pushing it and pulling it - all to no avail - I gave it a good kick and it's worked just fine all weekend.

Have just sorted this out yesterday. It was the tailgate actuator (and it sounds like yours is going too) which was a bargain at £29 from Audi. This was the root of all evil as described in my post. Amazing huh? Good that otherwise estranged parts of my car show such solidarity to each other!!
Tales of woe, mine is temperamental as well. a slight rattle inside, iffy about shutting but does open, doesn't like shutting in sub zero temperatures. But i have found if you threaten it for a period of time it will indeed shut. Must have some physicic device installed...
Will check the actuator, is it located in the tailgate(is that an Americanism?) as well.
