I've just stuck a few litres of new vegetable oil into my 1997 1.9 diesel Polo.
It's running fine.

I vaguely remember reading on some other forum to check what make the fuel pump is because only one brand will work properly with veg oil.

Anyone know what might be in mine (or why I need to check?!)

Cheers

You need to check the price of a new diesel pump, then you will know why you need to check.
Don't go over 75% veg oil.

Apparently as soon as you put anything in a road vehicle fuel tank duty becomes due - something I didn't know.

Time to get a bumper load of cherry derv!

You can brew upto 2500 litres of bio-diesel per person per annum without paying duty on it.

So if there are 10 of you in a production syndicate then that syndicate and produce 25,000 litres per annum duty free.

The 2500 litre rule is per location, not per person.
You don't need to "process" it, just make sure it's filtered and you don't use it neat, as it will cause problems starting when cold.

It might be handy to purchase a new fuel filter now. Biodiesel has a habit of stripping the crud out of your fuel system and blocking your filter with it.
