Hi - Can anyone on this forum give me any advice on running the Audi 2.4 V6 engine pre-purchase?

I was looking for typical reliability issues, typical fuel consumption (variables accepted), servicing costs, performance etc.

I have run an A4 4cyl petrol turbo with no issues whatsoever for 8 years, and will be adding an A6 V6 potentially. The 2.4 seems an odd unit superficially having similar power as turbo 4 pot yet fuel bills of 3.0 V6 - so what are its selling points ?

Any contributions appreciated

HAHA, yeah, err 177bhp? More please!

We've got a 2005 A6 2.4, the fuel tank is 70litres and that usually tends to last between 350mi to 400mi, the car does around 2,000mi per month mainly on very hilly roads and motorways.

Selling points? Erm... Well, in the 05 at higher revs it sounds really nice. Maybe extra torque, not so sure on that though. Other than that it's a pretty refined, quiet engine although perhaps if Audi got around to FSI-ing it it may well be better. That said though, it's mpg is as near as makes no difference identical to that of the 3.2FSI, the 2.8FSI is much better in terms of economy and power.

Isn't the general appeal that this engine is underpowered, juicy and a depreciation lemon

The 2.4 can be had in front wheel drive and as a result weighs a bit less than the 3.0 (which are all quattro I think). It was also cheaper new.

The selling points are that the car was cheaper to buy new, better on fuel economy than the 3.0 and possibly a lower insurance group.

The only advantage it has over the 1.8T is the refined engine.
