Hi,

I have been told that a TT needs a cambelt change at the 115k service according to the service book, but recommended at 80k, but also have read sooner on this site.

would be good to hear anyone else's thoughts on when a cambelt change should happen?

cheers,
Angie

Hi Angie.

Audi has reviewed the cam belt change on all models in 2006. its now 80k or 4 years
of age. Please dont ignore, when the belt breaks on a TT it does serious engine damage.
Hope this helps,
Rob

Hi thanks for reply, it's quite scary really, in terms of what could happen (and the cost), so would you recommend at 75k start looking for a garage to book it into, so it's done before 80k. The car I'm looking to buy is 61k and I don't want to have to lay out in the first year (assuming I do less than 15k in first year).

oh, hand on you said 4 years. this car is 4 years old this month - so does that mean it needs doing regardless of mileage?

so if I was trying to avoid this by buying a lower mileage model of the same age, it would still need the cambelt changing?

many thanks

If it's 4 years old, it's due for a belt (&waterpump) so use it as a bit of leverage to get the price down a bit wink

hi yeah sounds good, but I'm a girl and (not being sexist) but the sales men just say no it's 115 miles in the book for a cambelt change.

ok but good advice, will try it.

I'd just be worried (especially if it's not an Audi dealership) that they fobbed me off saying they'd changed it and hadn't really - then I'd be in trouble.

cheers,

..If they wont service it and do the cambelt then walk away, there are lots of 150
roadsters out there. make the cambelt part of the deal and insist on a copy of the
invoice from the Audi centre who fitted the belt (not specialist) All Audi parts
come with two years warranty, that way it should give you peace of mind if anything
was to happen in the future.

ok cheers, although I'm struggling to find with heated leather seats and upgraded alloys, looking on this site, autotrader and Audi website (you pay a lot more - is it worth it for peace of mind?)

any where else to look as I am struggling to find what I need, and I have a deadline of 19th April of my no claims run out.

Thanks again

...you work hard to buy a nice car, it the second most expensive thing
you will ever but (next to your house) get the best one you can even if you
pay a little more...and if its a nice car with nice milage, then it will be
easy to sell when your done with it.

yeah see what you're saying, it's just all that extra. I have seen a nice silver one, (prefer blue), but has black leather and upgraded 18in 9 spoke alloys on a 2004 model, with Audi it is £14.5k with 55k miles, the non Audi one with £61k miles was £11,990 - big difference of £2.5k for 10k miles

will keep looking

thanks for advice - any where to suggest to look, please pass on.

Angie

EDIT - just found another one on audit site similar to the non audit 2004 model with leather for £11990, on audit website, mileage is 41k (so £20k less) no upgrade alloys and it is £15.5k - how can they ask that much? it's quite frustrating as I like it, and would like an Audi dealer car, but god that is one heck of a price hike! £3.5k for 20k miles and Audi 12 mth warranty - is there more to it than that cos I'm starting to wonder what extra you are getting for £3.5k?
