The new Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics are the business and seem to be resonably priced. Best yres I've ever has and I was a fan of F1 GSD3s

How can you wear them out in 10k? You cannot wheel spin due to the traction control - so have you jus been cornering very hard and worn the edges down or have you been running them under pressure and damaged them?

You can easily go through a set of front tyres on a FWD car with high torque. Tranction Control helps prevent wheelspin but doesnt eliminate it completely.

I commend your driving style because I can't even get 40K out of a set of backs and the majority of my miles are motorway.

With my current car, which is 4WD I've managed 18K out of the fronts and the backs will probably do 40K

Lots of BMW 118d/120d drivers are getting near on 80k out of their Michellin tyres

Eh?

I got 11k on the MCS Runflats, 10k on the Yokos that replaced them, 9k on the Leon FR first set, the replacement GSD3's are looking tired after another 6k...

Torque and FI delivery seems to chew them up. Mind, I don't do so many motorway miles...

I was going to get Eagle F1's on my Leon Cupra R but the garage couldn't get a hold of them in time.

I did a bit of hunting and found that Falken 452's were a good bet, so I popped a couple on the front. Good thus far and not too pricey!

Not sure I'd like to keep a set of the same tyres on a car for 80k. 10k is about average for a set of tyres as mentioned on a torquey car. Dont forget the engine is right over the driving wheels, and the 1.9TDI is not a light engine. I usually get 11-12k from my F1's, but that usually has a trackday thrown in at the end, to make sure there well past road use.

I've just replaced the front tyres on my 07 Leon FR TDi with Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, good impressions for the first day or so over the standard Bridgestones. The Bridgestones lasted 18k by the way smile

If they are lasting 10k you aren't driving it rightwink

All this talk about high torque cars wearing out tyres quickly - well look in this weeks Autoexpress at the Long term BMW 535d M Sport touring. That has covered 30k in a year had 4 Euro trips 5 adults up fully laiden boot & roof box, moved many a mates belongings from one house to the next. And best bit of all the tyres are the Original and Still have a fair bit of life left in them yet.

This is a 286bhp (which was driven hard as well as less so) 550Nm a heavy touring model used to carry heavy loads. If you tyres are lasting 10k and your using the excuse that "Oh its a high torque car so you have to expect that" then its a load of tosh.

FYI 0- my Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo 220bhp & 230lbf @ 2800rpm has the same torque output as the VAG 1.9 PD TDI 130bhp - over a larger rev range too however my tyres have now lasted near on 40k and still have a good 4.5mm all round.

May I put it to you that there may be too many traffic light GP's & spinning the wheels out of junctions (i.e. poor planning ahead when driving to need to do that) and cornering FAR too quickly to wear the outside edge off.

OR your tracking is out, of the geometry is out.

Dont you have traction control - or be able to control traction with your right foot?

My cas has a LSD and booting it in 2nd on a dry surface with 220bhp & 230lbf will not evoke wheel spin.

Maybe I read your statement wrongly - your clearly doing a full throttle gear change at the POD noone does this on the Queens public highway

I got around 10,000 on the front before I had to change them with the backs. 160 bhp and 330nm of torque doesnt help along with soft tyres (Pirelli PZero Neros). I'll them to 18,000 (15,450 just now) then switch the GSD3s all ive heard is good reviews regarding these.wink

I dont have a harsh driving style and got 14k out of my tyres. That included changing them over too.
