Road tax will be £300 from next April worth bearing in mind.

Worth remembering that the 123d is equal 0-100mph as this yet in gear destroys it and has a higher top speed and returns 56mpg combined and costs £110VED.....

I have one and I love it. It's a great all-round car.

Sadly though I might not have mine for much longer as I want to buy a place to live, I shall miss it tremendously!!

Whats the road noise / build quality like? I had an MG ZS180 previously and had to get rid as couldnt cope with the noise and lack on confort for long journeys that I do regularly.

Depends on the quality of the road!!

Suspension is stiff but with decent tyres there's not much road noise at all.

Build quality in mine is decent, it's a VAG car so everything is sturdy and well bolted down.

Edited to add build quality stuff.

I had one of the first 210bhp models with the full Recaro interior and did 80K miles in just over 3 years and it never missed a beat. There are a few things to look out for if your buying one 2nd hand, in summary

1. Water in passenger footwell - door seals or pollen filter housing
2. Cooling fans - slow speed function fails causing fans to pulse on and off when A/C is on.
3. Sticking clutch - slave cylinder

The above are common an all Seats, Skodas & VW based on the MK4 platform

Other this to note;
- they eat front tyres
- they eat front brake pads

Test drive one, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I really enjoyed mine, and it worked well as an all rounder. The build quality was, as has been said, typically VAG.

My only negative point would be the front splitter is VERY low. If your drive is on a slant, spend a lot of time driving over speed bumps, or using multi-story car parks, take it slow!

I've just seen the date of your post! Did you get one?

I looked at one and indeed test drove the Cupra K, however found it a bit slow for a 'hot hatch'. Certainly not as involving as some of the competition, but if you do a lot of motorway miles and appreciate the decent build quality, then its probably for you.

If you want something to tackle twisty B roads, something a bit higher revving and more involving, then look elsewhere.

It is a decent car, but I wasn't particularly blown away. For £16k at the moment, a type-R GT is just as good (if not slightly better on the back roads). Worth considering, and as another poster said there's some decent 1-series with rear wheel drive that'd be worth a look ?

Hope this helps.
