Damn HGF! Happened on Saturday. I'm going to get a friend to do it and the cambelt too. Any ideas how much I should be paying for the parts kits?
I got quoted £32.90 for the cambelt kit and £131.14 for the head gasket set. Sound right? I thought the head gasket set sounded expensive...

http://www.car-partsonline.com/ is where i have bought HG and VW parts from in the past and found they use better quality suppliers than GSF. If you can get one for you car( i am not to clued up on 8v i have only rebuilt 16vs) then try and get a steel layered head gasket as these are close to unbreakable!
Regarding the price, a lot depends what you get in the HG kit, if it includes head bolts/steel head gasket/rocker seals/distributer seals/cam seals/ exhaust gaskets/ inlet gaskets like the kit i bought then for 130quid for all that plus if you getting it fitted by a mate ( i assume mates rates to) then its not that bad a deal.
