There has been some discussion amongst GTI Ed30 owners over the perceived exclusivity of their car which was marketed by VW under the limited run availability of only 1500 units. This has actually risen to somewhere around 2300 units and production now seems to have ceased. although you still can get your hands on one if youe search around. Now we have the Pirelli limited edition model which is rumoured to have some freebie's which were extra's on the Ed30.

Needless to say, some owners are now questioning the ethics of VW's strategy and are starting to write to VW and complain.

Yes, these things seem to happen at the end of a models production run, with the MK VI Golf on the horizon. I know you buys your car and takes your chance, but is it right that your exclusive, limited edition purchase turns out not to be so exclusive after all ?

I think the thing for me, is that VW openly announced there would ONLY be 1500 ED30s built and sold....
It now turns out that there are 2300 ED30s in existence, and they call it "an honest mistake"!

I remember exactly the same thing happened with the Clio Williams. The phase 1 came out and Renault promised it would be a limited edition car. They were snapped up because of this and then a Phase II came out! Brilliant, your 'limited edition' Clio is no longer that and its value has dropped like a stone.
