Hi All,

A friend at work has an 03 plate RS6 saloon.

The car started loosing power and massively shunting in between gears. It's now at the garage where it's been advised that the gearbox seals have gone, hence no pressure, hence cream crackered gearbox.

The car has only done 45,000 miles and it would appear from the independent specialist it's with, that this is a known problem on the RS6.

The car is obviously 5 years old and out of warranty, but does have a full service history (Main Dealer and Independent Audi Specialists) but does anyone know of any cases where Audi have contributed to fixing the problem or recognised this as a warranty issue/recall etc?

I would have thought that gearbox seals should not be going after less than 5 yrs and 45k miles. I've suggested that said friend should write to Audi Customer Services, but need some views if this will lead anywhere or not.

Given the bill will I think be approaching numerous thousands of pounds for a Gearbox rebuild, I guess it's worth a try.

Thoughts?

I had the gearbox seals replaced on my 03 saloon earlier this year. It was a 500 quid job at the main dealer and has been fine since.

If it has been Audi Serviced, I think you would stand a good chance of a goodwill claim, if not good luck
