Polo will not start!

Hi there,
Bit of a strange problem (I think). I bought a '02 Polo 1.2e today, because it does not have any road tax/MOT etc I thought I would tow it home (approx 60miles). So I drove and my dad steered (and braked) the Polo. When we got home the Polo does not want to start! I turn the key but all I get is a beeping sound and a red flashing exclamation mark (brakes?). Any idea what it could be? Did I do something wrong in towing it that distance/speed? Could the brakes have overheated when it was being towed (the car was off all the way). Any ideas??
