I am considering buying a 2002 or 2003 S3, so knowing how the government has shafted motorists with post march 2001 cars, i had a look at the Parkers website which lists new bands for 2008 till 2010. According to Parkers a 2002 S3 is in band K but a 2003 S3 is in band L. This is crazy, they are exactly the same car.Can any owners confirm this from their log books please. Andy.

Can't comment on the S3 but the 225 engine in my TT (52 plate) puts out 226 carbon thingys! Just over the threshold. Doh!

When did Audi move fromt he 210 engine to the 225? Pretty sure it was well before 02/03 so that should not be the impact.

I was in an audi dealership on saturday and was told that this new tax band was just for cars registered after march 2006

Hope this helps

not true I'm afraid - any car registered post 1 March 2001 is caught by recent budget changes on road tax

the current tax bands are being expanded and a lot of people will be paying a lot more for 2009-10

Just seen this thread.

Have a look at the AA and BBC websites. They both have car tax calculators - type in your model, engine size & year.

Hi Andy!
Good to hear you've still got the impreza.
Sold my S3 in Sept, now running an S4.

The tax seems to coming in at the £400 mark in 2009 onwards for anything which isn't derv powered!!

Hi Matt, yeah still got the impreza, just having the rear suspension fully refurbished and new front discs and pads fitted. I may keep it a bit longer now due to the car tax rules causing hot hatch values to plummet when people realise they are gonna be screwed every year.I can't believe a 2003 s3 will cost 130 quid more than a 2002 s3 in 2010. Andy.

I know what you're saying, its stupid.
My wifes Gti is a 99 model so she'll pay £210 or whatever the lower bracket is. however, same car on a 2002 plate will be £415.

what sort of system is that ?!

A system devised by a thieving, muppet government, who've not quite worked out (yet) how to get away with charging the higher rate to all - but fear not they'll get there.... furious

furious because both my cars (including the family runaround) will go from £210 to £415 to £440 to ?......
