I have a 57 reg 3.2 TT that has done a shade over 8000 miles, not had its first service yet, due in September or 2k miles which ever sooner, thing is the low oil light has just bleeped up!

Personaly im quite shocked at this as my previous cars (Porsche Boxster and Mercedes) never had this problem.

Is this unusual, is their an issue with the engine, should i advise Audi or is this just par of the course with Audi engines?

You obviously hadn't realised. Everyone on PH is perfect in every way. Hence the overbearing smugness the moment anyone asks anything that might indicate they've done something wrong.

I would imagine in this particular case it's a big act in which he pretends not to know anything about the low oil light on Audis, instead choosing to play-assume that you mean the low oil pressure warning. It's a cover up for his massive brain, not a colossal display of ignorance as it may appear.

Actually, I'm laughing at the "shock" of someone who has apparently run a car from brand-new to 8000 miles and never bothered checking the oil.

Is it a company car?

Nope, not a company car, I had always checked, and toped up, my old cars (capri escort etc) and monitored (but never had to top up between services) my Porsche and merc over the last 5 years, I had assumed, wrongly obviously, that car manufacters had now managed to build engines that could last a year without any kind of maintance, well, from my experiance Porsche and Mercedes have, im just surprised that Audi haven't.

Ignore them.

Any new engine will burn a bit of oil as it beds in. Do check it regularly!

How have you driven it? Carefully or like a 13 year old on a council estate?

Caning it from day one will bed the piston rings in nicely giving full power for its slightly shorter life.

Taking it really easy will make it last longer but it will use more oil and never give full power.

The 3.2 uses a bit of oil, this is completely normal.

The care section in your manual details this too.

Most Audi engines use a bit of oil, whatever the mileage - it's perfectly normal.

:smug face on: Never have used much engine oil in any of my Audi engines :smug face off:
Current s4 B7 has used 1/4 litre in 6000 miles.

To the OP: Why the hell have you never checked your engine oil? Beggars belief, frankly.

The 3.2 V6 in my R32 doesn't use a single drop between long life services.

I still check it regularly though! silly

Are you serious? Just because there is a low warning sensor or low pressure sensor it doesn't mean that it's a good idea to use it to tell you when to top it up.

Exactly - the low oil level warning is a last resort, not a routine reminder to top up. If it comes on during a stop in a long journey then you'll have all the hassle of trying to find the right oil etc.

It makes sense to check the oil often (every week) from new, then ease off if none is being used, but it should still be checked every now and again.
