I thought this was best here as I can't see a VAG/Skoda section!

I'm looking for a daily driver, predominantly for motorway work, but one which will provide some entertaiment on the twistis too. I want to get the equivilant fuel costs of 40+ MPG of petrol, so really looking for a small engine or a diesel (50+ mpg for the equivalent at a guess...)

Looking at the classifieds, vRS's seem to start at about £7k, so I'd be stretching my budget, but it may be a possibility. The questions are:

What sort of real-world motorway MPG will they return (say 0.8-0.85 leptons)?

Do the rear seats fold? (I need to carry one, preferably two, mountain bikes)

What are they like to drive?

Drop 439vRS a message, he should be able to tell you all you need to know as he is now on his 3rd vRS.

Oh and his is for sale too.

I run a Fabia VRS as my daily drive, so far done 53k in it since October 06, never had any problems.

The rear seats do fold flat, although if your tall you may need to move the drivers seat forward to get them perfectly flat if that makes sense, then you sit slightly uncomfortable.

I carry 2 mountain bikes often but on the roof. I am sure they will fit in the rear with the seats down.

As for MPG mine averages above 45mpg over a tank if I drive hard down country lanes and sensibly on dual carraige ways, I've been driving economically this week and the average currently is just over 50mpg over half the tank, on good runs I have seen 55+ as an average.

The biggest gripe I have is the fabric seats, the white outers are a pain to keep clean other than that very happy!

briskoda.net is a good site for information.

If you need space then maybe a 1.9tdi Estate would be a more practial choice than the vRS.

Possibly, but I've been able to get away with a hatch before. Certainly something Focus sized is more than addequate. I just need to get a mountain bike in, and whilst it doesn't need a huge amount of overall space, it's quite a big lump, which can cause issues in a saloon or coupe boot.

I was surprised by the lack of space in the hatch. Worth checking.

Chris - use the search function, vRS has been done to death. Lois started a thread recently, and both Rude Girl and Balmoral Green have contributed to these discussions in the past (both on their second Fabia vRS).

I averaged 63mpg over 200 miles at the weekend.wink

Cheers. Had a browse throught there and it looks encouraging. I've said elsehwere, that I'm put off by diesels unless they're doing very high MPG (I don't think a 40-50mpg diesel makes sense with fuel prices as they are) but if you're talking 60+ on the motorway that may well swing it.

The thing is, I haven't seen very many and they've all been rather expensive.

Back to the classifieds...

caught your jap thread as well...

one of my riding buddies has a fabia (not a VRS) and regularly heads out for runs with the bike in the back, wheels off to get in if you dont mind, my bikes have always lived in the car regardless...
