Apart from the £130 Neuspeed short shift kit, does anyone know if there are any other kits available in the UK for a Mk1 ?

I've found 4 in the States (going from £43 upwards), but only the super expensive Neuspeed one is available here - which I already have fitted to my car, but part of it has worn out, so there is waaaaaay to much play in the linkage.

I may well end up getting the old one welded up & then I'll file it back into shape if I can't find a sensibly priced one....

Thanks in advance

YO.
as long as you are still running the good old rod change gear box there is a much much cheaper option available to you which takes 2min to fit.

available from http://www.trimsport.co.uk/engine.html - 20quid from the website but they sell them for £15 at VW shows eg Edition 38 coming up at end of month

Yep - still a rod change box

Typically, that part of it is fine though ! frown

Its the "selector shaft"? thats bu99ered (the part of the linkage that the bubber ball is bolted to which controls the forward/backward motor of the gearstick).

The shaft is now an obsolete VW part, although you can still get the bubber ball part.....

i can only suggest hunting scrap yards - there are a few with mk1 living in them . have you tried on the clubgti/edition38 forums yet?

I found a few places in the US that sell a modified version.

The alternative is to buy a Mk2 shaft (which has the same bolt size/pattern for the shaft lever to attach to) & cut my existing one & the new one in half to make a new shaft.....

Watch this space !

This is the piece (or the Mk2 equivalent) thats worn out

The threaded end (on the left in the picture) has a rectangle cut out of the bar - and it's this rectangle thats worn out on my existing bar (it's more oval than rectangle !)frown

The Mk1 bar is on the left in this picture (complete with nut & washer)
