Middle of next year. There was an article in Autocar last week or the week before showing some spy shots of it testing at the ring. Spoke to my local dealer and they couldn't give any firm info. Apparently there is a 'special' R8 Dept that deals with any customer ordering an R8 and they get in touch direct. I'm still waiting!

There is a R8 team but i'm afraid thier 'offical' stance is still this - V10 / Roadster / diesel derivatives
To clarify, we have not received any communication from the factory stating that these models will be confirmed for production, or giving us any anticipated timescales.
Cannot argue with you there chap since you appear to be a man in the know, but the pictures in Autocar looked pretty real (ie not photoshop) and the article implied the car is definitely coming - although having said that, in all previous stuff I've read they (journos) have said it would be a targa and now those spy shots have come out they are sure it's going to be a proper cab!
Anyway, deposit is paid and fingers are crossed that it will be out sometime next year, if you hear anything (being on the inside so to speak) be sure to put a post on here please!

No worries.Notice how Audi are prepared to take deposits, read what you want into that!
I think you may be wrong there, I'm new to this so don't know how to post a link, but if you look on CAR Online under 'secret cars' and look under Audi, 13th August, there are spy shots of the car at the Ring testing, it looks like a proper cabrio and the Journo says it'll be a spyder, not a Targa as previously thought and reported....but I might be wrong!

I actually saw it at the Ring. And while you may be right, and certainly this image does back up what you said, to me at the time its side blades looked too solid to just be those of a piece of cloth, perhaps a better way of describing what i thought it was like was the way the roof was on the Lotus Elise S1 rather than a targa. the disguise is there for a reason though, to fool people like me.
Actually you might be right, looking at the pic you've posted the 'cloth' bit could be fake and covering up where the targa lid will sit. However, the petrol filler cap on the body of the car rather than the B pillar does imply to me at least that it's going to be a proper spyder...either way I just wish they'd hurry up and build it! The thought of that V8 in open top/targa mode is.....
