Just wondering what the consensus is on the Rtronic as fitted to the R8. Most R8s are manual and this seems odd given that most F430s seems to be orderded with F1. Why hasnt this happended with the R8? Has anyone driven one and would like to share?

Yes and ummm Yes!

Its great, very smooth and keeps the power on to infinity and beyond.

The anti-creep takes a little getting used too.

ETA - I'd say its 50/50 manuals to R-tronic coming through at the moment.

It must have been the first batch of cars that were mostly manuals then. Is there a setting for adjusting the speed of gear change as in M3 SMG? And from what I have heard the auto mode is rubbish - selecting 6th at anything over 30mph!

Bear in mind they are all built to a customer order (excluding Audi owned cars) so it was never a case of 'lets make mostly manuals'

It does have a sports mode which changes the drive considerbly, cruising in 'Normal' mode it does shift up quite quickly but 'Sport' mode holds the gears nicely and when planted it drops down the cogs quickly.

I think its about making a car which has the ability to rearrange your face but still allows you to drive through town without frightening children and upsetting your neighbours.

Tbh the r tronic is not too bad ery smooth in changing but didnt try it in sport mode though it would need to sharpen up a fair bit to be perfect in my book as in trundle mode its quick ish rather than fast.

I personally am a fan of the system though as i like being able to keep both hands on the wheel.
