A bloke at work has a 2001 A4 diesel with manual gearbox.

When he quickly goes on and off the throttle in 1st/2nd, at slow speeds there is a bit of a bang/knock from underneath, a bit like when you stall it.

It doesn't happen in any other gear though.

Could this be due to a worn gearbox mount or damper of some sort?

Cheers

To find a knackered mount pop the bonnet with the engine running, handbrake on and get someone to put it in first and lift teh clutch slowly - if the engine rocks around it's a good sign that something that should be holding it in place is not doing its job.

Sounds exactly the same symptom as when the mount on my first A4 was knackered.
