curious wonder if my tdi does the same...
I do recall reading that if you disconnect the TB and plug it back in again you can hear the TB re-aligning itself.
My previous older coupe was cable controlled and i spent a lot of time setting up the TB and boring it up a bit made a huge difference to the response of the car. electronics should be quicker than cables... should, would be great to see if this works, forwarded to pals with S/RS's see what the feedback is...

I have heard that if you turn ignition on, engine not started, and push throttle to the floor for 10 seconds it resets the adaption. I tried it once and it definately sharpened up the car, this was a Mk5 Golf GTI.I do recall reading that if you disconnect the TB and plug it back in again you can hear the TB re-aligning itself.

Right,
Finally tried this on sunday on my 2000 S3 and to be completely honest I don't think it's made any difference.
It did feel a little bit quicker than normal but i'd probably put that down to me not having to give it the full beans under normal circumstances.
Perhaps it's only a feature on the V8 S4's?

As yours is a 2000 model I wonder if it has the mechanical throttle rather than the drive-by-wire version on the later cars? I'll try it on mine this weekend as it is certainly DBW.Finally tried this on sunday on my 2000 S3 and to be completely honest I don't think it's made any difference.

To be fair, I found it quite hard to find somewhere do "test" if it works or not, I'll try to give it another go when I get chance as I know the ECU can adapt to your driving style over time so I think it should be possible

Good point - It think it's drive by wire as it's a facelift and the DBW throttle came on the S3's late 1999 - early 2000.

I tried it this weekend and ran into the same issue. Not many opportunities to try it on the M25! I certainly find it sluggish after MrsTwo has been driving it and it can take a couple of miles to wake the turbo up again. To be fair, I found it quite hard to find somewhere do "test" if it works or not, I'll try to give it another go when I get chance as I know the ECU can adapt to your driving style over time so I think it should be possible
I read this thread a couple of weeks ago and decided I'd try this left foot brake/full throttle trick. First time I thought, yes, exhaust throatier, response quicker, absolute power...not sure.
Tried it several times since including with daughter No. 1 aboard who asked why I did the brake/full throttle action (promising petrol/pistonhead!)but commented that it sounded better! As a result it's now become a habit so I guess soon I won't notice as the adaptive mode will always be full bore

I've got into the habbit of left foot braking and accelerating if I want to do some spirited driving. It transforms the car, and as mentioned somehow gives the exhaust a much deeper/louder tone. It can't be an exhaust valve trick either as mine are open all the time anyway.

Think the S4 has a newer version of the ECU so that *might* explain if it's having an effect on them and not the S3.
