I have a problem with the central locking on my golf,it does not seem to lock all the doors but will unlock them all. The key fob stopped working so i changed the battery and since then it has stopped completely so having to lock it manually.
I dont know if anyone can throw any light on the subject?

Thanks, Jon

Is it the right battery?, is it in the right way up?. Did you re-pair the remote after the battery was replaced?

To re-pair. Turn ignition on then off again quickly removed key and press remote unlock button, should get an indicator flash for confirmation. I take it you only have the one remote key.??

When you lock/unlock the car manually with the key does the central locking work normally. I/e all door lock and unlock. Is it a remote or a central locking issue?

When unlocking manually all doors unlock, however when locking manually only the drivers door locks.
It is definately the right battery but this still does not seem to want to work.

thanks, Jon

OK you got two faults there. One the remote doesnt work, probably needs re-pairing. If you didnt try that already.

Two the cars central locking doesnt work (locking). Its most probably a fault with the Central locking ECU/pump assy. I would suggest you will have to take it to a VAGCOM equipped independent or and VW dealer to have the fault memory read.

Sorry to thats bad news.

I have a similar problem with my 2001 SEAT Leon TDI. It will unlock the doors via the remote but will not lock them. The remote works and is recognised by the central locking unit because the alarm is activated and I get a flash of the indicators. The only fault stored says Central Locking Thermal Protection Activated. I have disconnected the doors and tailgate one at a time to try and eliminate the faulty door/mechanism but still can't find the problem. Next step may be a control unit but it's an expensive guess.

TameTech... any ideas?

The common fault with these is the ECU/pump unit in the boot. As a main dealer we are lucky enough to pre order parts we think it might be, and return them if not required. With the description of the fault we would have a pump on order, and do a quick plug it in and try it.

I've had a few remotes that only unlock and dont lock. You test if its the car or the remote simply by trying to lock and unlock manually with the key in the door. If its the same is nearly always the ECU/Pump assembly.

Sounds like door modules... sometimes the contacts need resoldering (Or whatever the term is). I'm clueless with it, someone else did it for me.

Look on uk-mkivs.net for a How To guide. It's a common fault with Golfs.
