Audi A3 Electric Window Problem
Discussion
Hi,
I'm sure this could have been asked before but I couldnt find it. I have an Audi A3 1.8T 3 door (2000) and the drivers window has gone wonkey. As it comes back up its jamming so I guess its my turn to have the all too common problem with the rubbish plastic window lifters.
My question is whats the damage cost-wise to get this sorted out?. I would do it myself but due to a mad hectic work schedule and the need to get it fixed ASAP I think I'm going to have to book it in to get it done.
Anyone got any ideas if its going to cost a fortune or know of any good independants in the Birmingham/Solihull/Coventry area?
Many Thanks

It's about 2-2 1/2 hours per door, so es, relative to the cost of the parts (less than £6 it will cost a fortune. You can DIY it, will find a link for you bare with me caller...
Its just the drivers one thats broken at the moment so I'll just get that one done for now...seems like getting it dones going to sting me. Is this the link?.....I've just found this one...

The pictures have now disappeareed, but it gives you a good idea of what's involved.
I DIY'd mine, saved about £400, and if you've done any DIY hatsoever, this should be OK, as long as you follow the instructions!

I've done a fair bit of work on cars in the past so I think I'll just go for it.....expecially if its going to save me 400 quid.
I'll try and track down the parts tomorrow and see where that gets me, more added faff I could do without!.
Had this last week on my 99 8L, me and my mate thought it was the dreaded clips but turns out my regulator had broke which in turn had been putting pressure on the motor which decided to burn out. Imagine my surprise when 2 new clips and a Sunday turned out to be £360 at a garage.
I only mention this because mine showed the tell tale signs, i.e, dropped and then bounced back up.
Never did it not go up or down correctly, just wonder if it may not be the clips.

Well I've had the door apart today after finding a great thread on Audi-Sport.net and to be honest its a bit beyond me!. I took the door card off etc and had a look at the clips and they look OK, it seems the regulator is kippered. I phoned GSF and they can do the part for £57 all in so not too bad. The window has play in it when its half closed, as the window goes up the back edge of it (opposite end to the wing mirror) snags slightly so the anti squeeze dumps the window back down again. I can only get the window up by pushing the glass as the motor runs.
Changing the regulator looks like a right nightmare so I've booked it into an independant who will collect my car from work on Wednesday, change the regulator and then drop it back to me for about £180 using proper Audi parts. Audi told me that they would need to see my car to quote, fair enough I thought but they wanted to charge me a £140 diagnosis fee....even though I could tell them what part was faulty. Im guessing they know exactly what I'm on about too as this happens all the time. Theiving blighters....needless to say I told them where to get off.
Here's a great thread on Audi-Sport that shows you how to sort it out if you have the time...

What a nightmare, but its not too bad considering I suppose, plus I need it doing ASAP so I'm happy (ish) to pay the premium to get it sorted out.

Where in the country are you?
Did it get done today?
I was a bit weary and scared when I started mine, but after doing one side, the other was done in a jiffy!
I'm in Solihull, just south of Brum. I've not had it done today as one of the lass's I work withs parther owns a garage, he's waved his magic wand and got the part trade for me and will fit it at cost so its not too bad cash wise at all, a lot cheaper than I first thought. Did it get done today?
