130 TDI Starting problems

I have a Bora 130 tdi lots of miles still going strong, some days not all days won't fire up have to turn it over for ages and will then start it's like the diesel is running back from the pump is this a common thing to happen.. and can i fix it.

first, I would sugest looking at www.uk-mkivs.net There's a few chavs there, but most of the guys are good natured. Bora is based on the Golf, so much should be common, and engines definitely are.

I had an identical problem with the A3, which turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. do you know anyone with VAGCOM? a fault code scan can save you a hell of a lot of money.
