I need two front tyres for my Golf, the current tyres are mitchelins 225/40 18 92Y, having phoned around the cheapest (like-for-like) i have found is £183 per tyreyikes

My question is, are Mitchelin the best or are somebody like continental just as good?

I believe the Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres are rated pretty well. Came out on top in an Evo tyre test last year. (which actually used an Ed 30 as test car)

Cheers mate, will price the Goodyears aginst the mitchelins.

I should probably bite the bullet and except expensive tyres for a relatively expensive car, might look at a punto next...rolleyes

yer right...

A vote for F1 Asymmetrics from me. The last pair I bought, same size as yours, a few months ago cost £110 each.

If you want Michelins go to your local Costco as they are the cheapest I've found for Michelins. last time I checked they were around £135 each

I'd take the Goodyears even over the Michelins - there was a thread quite recently on the same subject.

General (and press) consensus was the the Eagle F1 is pretty damn hard to beat at the moment.

Ive got Dunlop Sp9000s on mine and they're great, look good, quiet and excellent grip in dry and particularly the wet. Cost me £99 per tyre.

Goodyear then Michelin was the result of Evo's tyre test last year, using a Golf GTi.

Have alook on here http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s1...

I have the same size on my ST and bought the Vredesteins (2nd in the last Evo tyre test) from Camskill. They post them to your home and you'll just need to pay your local tyre man to fit them. I notice the Goodyear Eagles are £99, I would have bought those if they were that cheap when I was looking.

Thank you all, for your suggestions, i have gone with the Goodyear Eagle F1's.

For anyone else who is wondering how they perform... so far, better grip than the mitchelins, but as they are grippier, they are slightly softer and will probably wear a bit faster.

Well hope that makes sense.byebye

Just what I was going to say!

I have Michelin PS2s and Goodyear F1s on my R32 & I'd buy either again, depending on what was on promotion at the time.

Don't stint on air pressure for the F1s. They are softer sidewalled than Michelins.
