Vaguely considering a used A8 6.0 but concerned about the W12 engine. Are there any common problems or things to look out for? I guess it uses timing belts rather than chains so I'll check that they've been done if due.

I assume that the 6.0 A8 is more solid than the Lambo unit in the S8?

I pretty sure it uses cam chains not belts.

I own a 54 plate W12 and can confirm they use chains rather than belts.

They are a bullet proof engine providing they have been serviced correctly at the correct time. (variable servicing)

I was considering selling mine if you are interested please email me

With regards to MPG the tank holds 90 litres and last between 240-310 miles depending on how you are driving.

I get approx 280 miles to the tank of mixed roads/driving styles.

Only things to look for (apart from the obvious) are corroded wheels and centre caps (too much acid cleaner), check the pads and discs for wear and make sure all electrics and interior trim are operational.

Nice engine. It's available in a Touareg but sadly not sold in the UK market.

Thanks for the replies guys, not looking to buy until the new year but good to know that (apart from petrol costs) I'm not totally crazy to consider one.
