Problem with Audi A3 2.0 Diesel - Please help
Discussion
We have a problem with our Audi A3.
While driving around - the last two times it was on the motorway - the car became speed limited to 60mph without the driver doing anything. Putting the accelerator to the floor does nothing ... No more power being delivered. Sometimes the limit then slowly decreases, making it impossible to go beyond 40mph or even lower on occasion.
To make it work properly again, we switched the ignition off, went through the procedure to reset the speed limit warning function on the car as per the manual and then drove off. On occasion the problem has recurred which was then again fixed by following the above procedure.
Does anyone know how it may be sorted out ? Or had any experience or heard about this problem ?
I will be contacting Audi shortly to have it checked out. But it might be quite difficult to explain it to them as the fault is intermittent and usually only turns up after driving for about 1.5-2 hours.
Little more detail
2004 Audi A3 Sport 2.0 DSG 140hp - slightly under 16000 miles done.
There is no speed limit warning signs lighting up at any point. The manual does not really indicate that the speed limited can physically reduce your speeds - but only warn you when you are over the limit you set. Since no one else we know has an Audi, I cant verify this.
My wife felt that accelerator go slightly "soggy" or just give way slightly when this happened. After that, no more real power ... And impossible to go over 60. The engine sound also changed enough for us to notice ...

It think the speed limit is a red herring. The engine is probably just loosing power and you end up at that speed. The speed limiters on the dash, as far as I know, just bleep when you get to the speed they dont stop you going over it.
Next time it does it, pull over as soon as poss, and just turn the engine off take out the key and turn it on again. If its then fine, I think what you have in an engine management issue, possibly turbo overboosting.
Try driving in 3rd or 4th gear from very low rpm 1300-1400 or so (preferably up a steep hill) on full throtle up to say 4000rpm, repeat this a few times and see if the engine looses power then. If it does you are indeed overboosting.
This should log a fault code that the audi techs can read. You will probably need a new turbo though, if it is the case.

Hello ive got audi a3 8p 2.0tdi dsg 2004 with 212milage stock 140bhp.
The owner before me told me that this car has been remaped but he doesnt know how much.
In my opinion and my friend told me too that the car is not pulling as it should be. What could be the problem? Also when i bought the car i had engine light on but when i put on diagnostics they said i might need to replace my air flow sensor.
Also when i put my foot to the floor and when i gets over 60mph i have no power everything's just gone but when i stop and start up the car again the car pulls as it should what could be the problem? Some people say that i might need to clean the EGR valve. Please help!!!
As i seen on YouTube when other people remap this type of audi the wheels spin on first and second gear but my doesnt even spin on the first gear.
