Looking at an A6 3.0L avante quattro - advice appreciated
Discussion
I'm currently looking at a few A6 3 litre avante quattros with tiptronic. I'm aware of the future road tax for the 2003 model but as I now do less than 4000 miles a year in it, the fuel bills won't be too much of an issue.
The reason I'm looking at these cars is that they are potentially great buys as no-one can shift them and as I plan on keeping it for a long number of years, I can almost write off any return if I get it cheap enough in the first place.
Having had a '98 A6 2.4 petrol and then a '99 1.9TDi, I'm familiar with the cars to a degree but would love to find out if anyone can tell me anything sinister to look out for.
Thank you.

I have the manual 3.0 Se quattro A6 on a 2002, nothing to report fault wise. The reason I'm looking at these cars is that they are potentially great buys as no-one can shift them and as I plan on keeping it for a long number of years, I can almost write off any return if I get it cheap enough in the first place.

I've heard that a knocking from the front suspension is suspension bushes, and that on the multitronic transmissions they need trans. oil changes at 40,000 miles.
Apart from that I like wafting around in mine with plenty of grunt when you need it or a super quiet v6 when taking it easy.
