A friend of mine is looking to get his Golf 1.8T remapped to approx 200bhp, can anyone recommend anywhere on the south-coast that can do this and not charge a fortune for it? He has seen a guy advertising on ebay, offering a re-map for £150, but he's in Lincolnshire so a bit of a trek.

One of the guys i work with had a remap done for his TT by K-Tec Racing in Verwood, speak with Dave on 01202 820800, or the other option i know of is Ray West Tuning based at Thruxton Race Circuit on 01264 773839

Be V wary of those ebay ones, lots of people setting up with laptaps now..sure that can re-program ECU and make car quicker but why do you think "proper" tuners spend so much time on development? Regal are also down southhampton way, have never used hem but they do lots of VAG stuff. Also, speak with Ray West as mentioned, top bloke and been doing it years..

Thanks for the response's. I think he's really hung up on the price, more-bhp.com are offering a re-map on ebay for £150, and they seem to have good reviews on the mk4 forums. Im just surprised that there aren't more people out there offering prices as competitive.

If it was me I would look at using someone with a good reputation and who is on my doorstep incase of any issues, but he seems more concerned about the price!! banghead

Custom Code have lots of mobile tuners and out of all the re-mappers they seem to have the best reputation.

You pays your money you takes your choice, he'll be even more concerned on price if it should go pop! If he's that worried about price, worth calling a few of the repuatable tuners and asking why they seem to charge more, hopefully that will explain things a bit better.

A quality remap is cheaper than an engine.

My personal opinion - If it's not being set up on a rolling road then i wouldn't let them near the car/

£150 is far too cheap, even if they have very low/no overheads (like premisis). You buy cheap, you buy twice is what I've always been told!

I've used CCC technology before, and he's up north, but covers the whole country. He's also done hundreds of VAG remaps.

What's wrong with a Lincolnshire tuner?

www.jabbasport.co.uk

These guys specialise in VAG forced induction cars. They fitted a Milltek, air induction kit and front brake upgrade to my R32 while it was on their rolling road so they could see what power gains the air kit and Milltek made. They even asked me if they could look at my engine mapping - they had a few R32 owners asking about remaps and wanted to see what they could work with despite it being a naturally aspirated engine.

Well worth a look IMO

They did mine (twice wink ). If i get the next car done i'm 99.9% sure they'll be doing the work.

his mate is on the south coast so trekkin up to Lincolnshire would be bit daft.

I "trekked" down to Lincolnshire.

It's worth travelling to have it done properly IMHO. Or you can sit on your backside and have some EBay fly-by-night plug his laptop in and disappear off into the night with your money.
