Hi all,
anyone out there know what would be involved to upgrade a mk4 with "normal" key opening to remote??
The central locking all works ok on the car, I have a new "flip" key & sender, how does the car recieve the radio command? Is there a module / antenna?
Thanks in anticipation.

It would be easier and probably cheaper to fit an Alarm that controls the centrel locking

Cant be done with genuine parts without major expense, new keys/convenience control unit and other parts required, one big money pit

best option as mentioned is aftermarket alarm system or similar

Thanks for the replies, I broke a Bora a little while back and kept a lot of the electrical bits, how do I know which is the "convenience module".
Does anyone know if the ECU needs options programming when this is added?
Isn't the key coded to the dash?

Your best bet is to check here http://uk-mkivs.net/.

I think it can be done, but you'll likely need VAGCOM to activate the function.

as a general rule the convenice unit is a black unit with 5 or 6 plugs on it but there are an awful lot of versions of the unit so its best to double check with your local dealer if it will be ok to fit, and they also need coding in via vag-com/ vas-5051b dealer machince
