Hello chaps,
The service is due on the Cabrio - its a 2.4 V6 and word is that it is time for the 75k / 5 year service. The car has covered 15k maximum, does it REALLY need the timing belt? All it got last time was the oil change and inspection.

Cheers

Ring a specialist and see what they advise, I doubt it needs it.

On a different note, how do you find your cab? I'm currently eyeing up a 2.4 and a 1.8T

If the car falls outside its time window then replace that belt now !!! Cos if it breaks the bill will be simply huge ! Its also worth replacing the water pump and the tensioners well Your at it as these are the next weak link !

Correct, correct and correct.

It doesn't reeeeeeeeeally need doing but we see it far to often that people take this view and then have to stump up for a new engine.

You might get away with it, you might need 5 grand of engine.

Audi changed the cambelt criterea in November last year, 2004 model year onwards 75k or 5 years which ever comes first, reason behind this is they have taken into account on a global scale of the amount of monies they have paid out on premature failures, i would advise get it done, also water pump as these are prone to either excessive play or failing with the impeller.

Anyone know the dealer price for the timing belt change? My local Audi told me that I should have it done at my next service (scheduled next week) at a cost of £600 +VAT. I asked what other belts or ancilliary parts would be changed, or should be changed, at the same time and they said 'nothing'.
Thanks for the posters who have advised doing the water pump and tensioners at the same time.

I was quoted a tad more than that but told that tensioners would be replaced. Must get around to doing it soon, it's overdue by 85k miles now yikes

Just rang Audi Bridgend, they do the cambelt/tensioners on the 2.4 V6 for £373

Local specialist of around the £300 mark

Thanks, very interesting! Maybe the 2.5 V6 TDI is a more expensive job. Or maybe my local dealers are having a laugh!

Sorry, that should have been £466 at Audi, the £373 is for the service. I think I'll take mine to the specialist for £300.
