Hi, wonder if you can help, I have a mk2 j reg 8v and everytime i come to a stop it stalls. It runs fine and pulls well but when i come to a stop the revs dip to low and it stops. It revs spot on at 800rpm when standing.
Cheers for any help
Andy

My knowledge of the 8v motors isn't intimate, is yours K-Jet or Digi?

MK2 GTI stalling problems can often be attributed to the Idle Stabilisation Valve or associated circuitry - it should buzz loudly with the ignition on and needs regular cleaning with petrol (not brake cleaner). They get full of black dust/muck very quickly and stop working.

The ISV always plays silly buggers and as Dr G said, give it a good clean and it should stop the stalling problems.

Give the throttle body a clean out while you are on aswell.

In fact - pretty much anything tubey/hosey seems to fill with a nice thick layer of gunk in a MK2 laugh

The idle speed controller seems to be a sealed unit on the 8v?? I can't seem to open it like i did on my 16v..
